My Story

My name is Irene Moore and I became an orphan at the age of 15. As I struggled to come to terms with my grief and predicament, storybooks became my refuge and escape.

They showed me that there was a whole world beyond what I could see before me, and to aspire to be anything I set my heart to.

It was my mum, Lorna, who first inspired my love of reading and who taught me and my five siblings the importance of education.

So, this foundation is her legacy; the legacy of a strong, beautiful kind woman who in her short life loved, educated, and cared for so many people.

After my mum died, I came to England from Uganda in 1997.

The relocation was both a cultural shock as well as an adventure and many of the things I had only read about in story books set in the western world, were now in front of me!
